Try the Linear Probe Before Going Transvaginal
In early pregnancy, if an IUP is not clearly visualized with the curvilinear probe, try a high-frequency linear probe before proceeding to transvaginal US. Its improved near-field resolution can better demonstrate the gestational sac, yolk sac, and fetal pole. Tabbut et al. found that linear transabdominal US identified an IUP in 33% of patients with a nondiagnostic curvilinear scan, potentially avoiding TVUS. If a definitive IUP remains unconfirmed, proceed with the appropriate evaluation for pregnancy of unknown location.
